BLM and ACAB.
Easy. That’s the whole entire post.
But, just in case you’re some kind of wretched pedant, i would like to clear something up. These sentences are important, righteous, and powerful.
“All Cops Are Bad.”
No, I don’t mean it literally, obviously, you can’t say “all ——- are ———-“ about anything without some greasy figure wrestling your shoulder with an “um akshully” but what you are doing by misinterpreting the phrase is devaluing it’s two legitimately good uses:
1. Inaction/inability to take action. A cop that says nothing to stop evil and a system that prevents cops from stopping evil is evil. It doesn’t matter how nice any particular police officer is, they are a cog in a vile machine and are at the very least comfortable working for that.
2. For black/minorities: ACAB is life saving advice. If you are a minority in the United States you should never under any circumstance trust an individual police officer until that trust has been earned. Assuming they can and will kill you over trivial things is a necessary precaution.
“Oh but officer Margaret brings the nicest chili to the annual community picnic” shut up. People are capable of a wide range of behaviors. Derick Chauvin most likely made some people laugh or smile, probably even made someone happy once or twice. It doesn’t matter how nice someone can be, it only matters how low they can stoop and if there’s one thing we’ve seen live on air countless times this week: it’s real fucking low. If a murderer cop was the nicest man in the world 364 days a year and on that one he snapped and took someone’s life he should not have a gun.
He should not have a badge.
Prosecutors shield these two-bit executioners.
Speaking up against another officer from within the force will get you fired far more often than shooting an unarmed black man.
ACAB = “Our system is fucked and those who endorse, participate, and tacitly approve need to be accountable for its actions.”
The police union needs to die in a tire fire. I don’t care how many lifelong careers and fascist fantasies get brought down with it. Dispose of the leaders, remove the pawns, and renegotiate law enforcement and contracts with government at every level.
Every. Single. City. Must evaluate the effect of its law enforcement and take drastic steps to reshape how it’s done.
Demilitarize. Get rid of Forfeiture. End the racist and ineffectual war on drugs. Imprison rich and powerful criminals like everyone else. Fund public attorneys. Most importantly, Cops answer for their crimes, their mistakes, their murders. Make them stand trial, and if they were in the right to make their actions, the trial shall show it.
Now, about BLM
I have significantly less to say because my thoughts boil down to “yes.”
“All lives matter” is a statement so redundant and stupid, it’s hardly worth bothering with.
Yes of course, welcome to base level empathy.
Now here’s a fun exercise.
Take Black Lives Matter and add a “too” to the end.
There. That’s the whole thing. Stopping at the M just makes it catchier.
It took 3 days to arrest a cop for evidence that would get any citizen a first-class ticket to death row. That is indefensible. Take your “innocent until proven guilty” and shove it up your ass, there’s no reason he should not have been detained, the way that murder suspects always have and will be.
All lives should matter, obviously. But until we take substantial steps to completely redesign our criminal justice system, black lives currently do not.
Not all lives matter until black lives matter.
There. Done.
ACAB. BLM.
oh and on a personal note Fuck Trump.
