For my second book, I’ll be jumping on board the NaNo train this year and writing about the experience and random stuff as an aside over on BlueSky.
This time around, we’re going for a full throated Fantasy story set in a world where all monsters were once people – where flaws consume and become who we are and the people doing their best to change the trajectory of their lives. The Set in Stone will intend to tell the story of two people with opposed views of fate desperate to see a different outcome than what they anticipate.
From my first book, I hope to continue to pull some evocative imagery and elements of worldbuilding and character interaction, but I have learned a lot from that first fledgling novel, as well. Going into NaNo, I’m hoping to improve my protagonists as driving forces and a more clearly laid out plotline. There will be lots of time for the fun and macabre, I hope to reign in the focus this time around.
For influences, I will be referencing a fair chunk of Greek mythology for my beastiary/approach to monsters and magics. Where the last book was about spellcasters in a magical world, here I hope to capture humanity outclassed by the supernatural around them.
As October goes along, I will not be sharing my outline, rather, I hope to post a few times about progress, things I’m liking and then, obviously, November will eventually hit.
Nothing ventured, etc.
